So, you might be wondering what a small sectional sofa is. Today we will talk about all things pertaining to small sectionals, and why these modern, trendy pieces of furniture might be right for you.
Sectional sofas are versatile and modular, usually easy to move around or reconfigure. A sectional is considered a sectional when it has two or more pieces that can be joined together for seating and various configurations.
These two or more seats can connect to make one large seating area, and oftentimes, sectional sofas come in many different configurations like L-Shape, U-Shape, or Chaise sectionals. When it comes to small sectional sofas, they are considered small when there are only about two or three pieces that are joined together to make one seating area.
You can get sectional sofas in just about any fabric, color, or material that fits your flair, that’s why sectional sofas are a great addition to any home. In addition to a variety of materials and colors, you can get small sectional sofas that have chaise loungers, secret storage areas, reclining seats, or even pull-out beds.

Styling With a Small Sectional Sofa
Knowing how to style a sectional sofa can be a little overwhelming, especially if you want to make your space cozy, but aesthetically pleasing. Sectional sofas can provide both function and style to any space, whether that be an oversized living room or a smaller living area. We are going to share some tips on how to style a sectional sofa to make it look better in any living space.
Accent with Throw Pillows
Throw pillows are a great, practical way to add texture and color to any space. Because sectionals tend to have deeper seats than normal couches, it is easy to layer throw pillows to create a fuller, more put-together look. Throw pillows are also super easy to change out as the seasons change, or when your design inspiration is sparked.
Choose a Bold Color
A sectional is a great way to make a bold statement in your space. If you want a space that speaks to your personality and design flair, start with a sectional couch that is finished in fun upholstery like velvet or leather, or choose a vibrant fabric color and accent pillows.
Add a Rug
Adding a rug is essential to any living room space. A rug makes your living room feel complete, and paired with a complimenting sectional, it can create a cozy, warm, and intentional environment. When people pair a rug with a sectional, the popular approach is to find a rug that fits perfectly in the middle of an L-shaped or U-shaped sectional, but there has been aesthetic benefit found by also styling a sectional with a large rug that fits underneath all of the sectionals legs. Either way, you choose, be sure to compliment your sectional with a rug that speaks to your design appeal and aesthetic.
Accent with an Armchair
Pairing a sectional with a complimenting armchair is another great option, especially if you own an L-shaped sectional because the armchair can be the perfect end piece to give your sectional a U-shaped design. Sectionals and armchairs both are known for being cozy, inviting pieces of furniture, so paired together is the ultimate duo for luxurious comfort.
Pair With a Coffee Table
Pairing your sectional with a coffee table is a great way to add additional space for more decorations or storage. If you have a small space, adding a circular coffee table is great for tucking into the small nook of your sectional, to create a great functional look.
Additional Styling Tips
- Add an ottoman
- Float the sectional
- Accent with statement art
- Frame your space with the sectional

How to Properly Maintain and Clean Your Couch
You not only want your couch to feel good, but you want it to look good, and continue looking good for years to come. We’re going to share some of our favorite tips on how to keep your couch looking brand new, so you can enjoy it year after year.
Vacuum
First and foremost, you are going to want to take a hand vacuum or the brush attachment to your regular vacuum and go over the surface of your couch to get any loose debris or dirt.
Clean Wood and Metal Areas
Using a simple solution of warm water and dish soap, take a cloth and wipe down any metal or wood pieces on your sofa like buttons, handles, and legs.
Determine the Fabric Type
Cleaning different fabric types take different cleaning methods, and your couch should have a tag that determines how it can be cleaned. So, depending on the upholstery you are trying to clean, follow this simple guide according to the tag:
- W (Wet): You can use water to clean this fabric.
- S (Solvent): Use a dry cleaner detergent by itself.
- WS (Wet and Solvent): You can use a dry cleaning detergent by itself or a mild detergent with a steam vacuum.
- X (Vacuum only): No water or detergent will be safe on this type of fabric, so use a vacuum only to clean.
Remove Stains
Now that you know what fabric type your couch is, you can easily remove stains by following the care instructions. A lot of times you can remove stains using ingredients readily available in the kitchen, so, let’s take a look at how to make natural cleaners for different fabric types.
- Leather: Mix ¼ cup white vinegar and ½ cup olive oil in a spray bottle. After mixing, spray onto the couch's surface and wipe clean with a soft cloth.
- Fabric: Mix ¼ cup white vinegar, 1 tbsp of dish soap, and ¾ cup warm water in a spray bottle, and mist the affected area. Scrub the area with a soft cloth until you notice that the stain has lifted, and then, using another damp cloth, clean the area to remove the soap. Let air dry, or use a towel to dry.
- Synthetic: In a spray bottle, mix 1 cup of warm water, ½ cup white vinegar, and ½ tablespoon of dish soap, and mist onto the affected area. Scrub with a clean, soft cloth until the stain is lifted.
Let it Dry
Now that you have vacuumed, wiped down, and removed any visible stains, it’s time to let your couch dry out. Take a dry towel to remove any leftover moisture, and then let the couch air dry. If you’re home is humid, it is recommended to set a box fan up beside your couch to speed up the drying process, as any moisture leftover can cause couch cushions and fabric to mildew.
Additional Tips
- Use a lint roller to spot clean fabric couches that attract lint, dust, and hair.
- Steam-cleaning fabric couches can easily lift dirt and debris.
- Leather soap and conditioner are a great way to keep leather couches fresh and clean.
- It’s a good idea to do a deep clean on your couch once or twice a year while doing spot and surface cleaning every 3-4 weeks, or whenever there is a spill or stain.

Why Trust Urner's and Urner's Mattress?
Urner’s started on the back of a bicycle - yup! A bicycle! David E. Urner, a local high school teacher, who spent his summer months selling Wear Ever cookware off the back of a bicycle (think 100+ degrees). David teamed up with another local teacher, Errol P. Janes to create “a new type of store – one that would cater exclusively to providing an easier way of living for the women of Kern County”, and on September 19, 1919, Home Appliance Store was opened to the public. The store boasted a rather impressive selection of “modern” appliances, including a washing machine, a freezer, a gas range, an automatic dishwasher, and an assortment of small appliances. Since then, Urner’s has expanded selections to appliances, furniture, mattresses and cabinetry!
For nearly one century, the Urner family and Urner’s business have both been an integral part of Bakersfield and Kern County, with contributions to the community (Better Business Bureau, Sister City Projects, Bakersfield Symphony), charity (Ronald McDonald House, St. Jude’s Dream Home, House of Hope) and education (CSU Bakersfield, Ray Dezember Leadership Development Center.
